Faculty of humanities and social sciences

The Faculty offers the following majors (directions and specialities):

  • History
  • Philosophy
  • Sociology
  • Politology
  • International relations
  • State and municipal management
  • Arts and humanities

The duration of the courses – 4 years (Bachelor), 2 years (Master) and 5 years (Diploma Specialist).

The academic staff of the Faculty consists of 286 persons, 75 of them are professors and D.Sc holders.

At present time the Faculty trains around 2300 students and trainees of 38 russian regions and from 90 countries of the world.

The Faculty has 11 Academic Chairs, Social research laboratory, the Center for oriental philosophy and culture, the Center for the russian history, the Center for world musical cultures.

The post-graduated studies are coordinated with 4 Special Dissertation Councils.

The Faculty has worked out the concept of its development in accordance with the modern demands and requirements of the social, political and economical situation in this country and within the current position of the humanitarian science. The main emphasis in the study process is made on a multi-lingual essence of the University. The Faculty seeks to bring its curriculum closer to the standards of the higher schools of the developed states. The study process is conducted on the basis of credit points while the examinations is made on the ratio-point system.

Every year the Faculty directs about 150 best students to undergo foreign language courses abroad (Arabic countries, China, Europe and USA). The joint academic program is implemented in co-operation with University Bordo-4 of France and the Institute of political science.

The peculiarity feature of the Faculty is the correlation of science research and educational process, fundamental traditions of the russian society and vital needs of the modern society. The main science theme of the Faculty is “Dialogue of the civilizations: East – West”. The Faculty scientists have published 90 monographies, 65 – teaching aid books, received 108 different grants, conducted 60 international symposium and conferences. 10 students science societies operate at the Faculty.

The Faculty maintains wide international links and co-operation with over 30 Universities and Institutions of the world.
