Faculty of Agriculture
Dean: Professor V. V. Gorchakov, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Biology).
The Agrarian Faculty trains students in 3 majors:
- Agronomy (soil science) -4 years (Bachelor) + 2 years (Master)
- Animal production (zootechnics) -4 years (Bachelor) + 2 years (Master)
- Veterinary medicine - 5 years (State Diploma Specialist)
The graduates in all majors are qualified to be admitted to Ph. D. research and studies in 12 themes of agriculture within 4 State Dissertation Councils.
The Faculty has 9 Academic Chairs (Departments):
- Botanic, physiology of plants and agro-bio-technology
- Genetics and selection of plants
- Veterinary pathology
- plant protection
- Zoo-technology
- plant breeding
- soil science, agro-chemistry and agro-ecology
- economics, management in the field of agriculture farm
For the years of its activity the Faculty has created a highly qualified staff, experienced in science and pedagogic work in different countries and regions including tropical and sub-tropical zones of the world.
Academic staff includes 18 professors and D.Sc. holders and 50 associated professors Ph.D. holders. The graduates of the Faculty display a high level of professionalism and a good knowledge of foreign languages that gives the a priority employment to top ranking positions. A number of the graduates have been involved in diplomatic service (agric experts), some of them work as experts in WTO Geneva, Moscow municipal, others are the heads of administrations of russian regional councils. Many of russian graduates are performing as a brilliant teachers, general director and managers of international companies operating in this country. The Faculty has a developed material base of teaching laboratories, equipment, computer classes with internet access, herbarium with 25.000 units. The Faculty maintains the center for biology and veterinary, that includes veterinary clinic with a surgery and x-ray labs. The students undergo practical classes in the University’s agrarian branch “Bogoslovskoye Farm”, Tula region.
